Disana Boiled Wool Doubleface Blanket in two sizes. Size one, 100x135 cm is 40 x 53 inches. This size is suitable for a child or small adult for use on the couch, for example. 

It also comes in size two, 135 x 200 cm, which measures 53 x 79 inches.  

To compare the weight of this two-color blanket to the one-color blanket in size two  135x200, the one color in the size two weighs 2 pounds 13 ounces, but this two-color blanket in the same size weighs 3 pounds 9 ounces.  So it really does contain more wool.

This is a two color soft organic boiled merino wool blanket made in Germany. GOTS certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic.  It's contains more wool than the single color version, so it is heavier.

Wool naturally balances body temperature, unlike synthetics. Wool rarely needs washing. It self-cleans and airs out easily. Serious soiling will need to be hand washed out, but most daily moisture issues (such as spit-up) can be promptly wiped off and it stays fine without getting smelly.  Learn about wool. Once you understand the unique natural properties of wool you will see how easy it is to care for and enjoy how lovely it is and even possibly pass it down to your grandchildren. Because this is the boiled wool version, it is sturdier than the more delicate heirloom knit and honeycomb knit versions and this is the heaviest version.

We also have a one-color version of it, which is also substantial but lighter than this two-color version.

Synthetic weighted blankets filled with plastic just do not compare to this.  

In the picture below, this four blanket layered setup on a bed is heavy and warm.  Blankets are great for warmth, but they are also great for soothing, comfort and security. Several blankets layered like this creates a natural "weighted blanket". It feels much better than common weighted blankets.  Inside typical weighted blankets are usually noisy micro glass beads or plastic poly pellets. Natural fibers are the best.

Yes, you can use either version of the boiled wool blankets under a sheet or two sheets as a natural moisture barrier.  That's like putting a diaper cover on the bed!  The sheet or sheets acts like the diaper and the boiled wool blanket acts like the diaper cover. Thus, your expensive mattress is protected from wetness without plastics or vinyl. This set up is comfy, breathable and doesn't crinkle. Then later when you no longer need mattress protection, use the blanket as intended as a lovely and wonderful blanket.  

Tip from Karen: As with all wool items, keep moths away from wool. In my house in Vermont, I keep Dr. Killigans Pantry Moth Traps around (I have no affiliation to that brand) to make sure moths don't set in and get to my precious wools. I have Disana blankets purchased over 20 years ago that are still in constant use in my house.  Take care of your wool investment and it will provide comfort and joy for a long time.
