Aristocrat wool diaper cover

The versatile Aristocrat! The most leak-proof cover we know of. Soft and comfortable. No red marks, nothing binding, just soft.
5 weeks old, about 13 pounds in size small aristocrat. It is so wonderful to hold a baby wearing comfortable, soft wool. You have to experience it to really understand why wool is the best material for a diaper cover. This picture sent in by a customer in Hawaii really captures it well. So beautiful.
small on 3.5 month old 13 pound baby.
Size small. Such a comfortable cover!
These pictures below were taken one right after another. A flexible fit through a broad size range. The baby is 23 pounds and 15 months old.
An old, very snug, stretched out size small (they do stretch as baby grows IF you don't shrink them). This really is too small on her, but it works in a pinch. A new size Small Aristocrat does fit on a young baby from about 6 or 8 weeks old (see bottom of this page), and won't start out all stretched like this one. Aristocrat size large. This is perfect on her.
Size Extra Large. This is really too big on her, but it can be good at night for a heavy wetter who needs lots of cotton to do the job at night. Mom can put a whole lot of cotton under this and still have good coverage. Thin legs should not size up to XLarge too soon. They are big covers. If it's too big you can get gaps at legs causing leaks. The size Large pictured above is really the correct fit for this baby. We show these pictures for comparison purposes.
Aristocrat size large on a 14 pound 5 month old baby. It's big on her, but it works. A small would also fit her, and give a trimmer fit.
Baby sizes vary a lot! You can see this in the pictures above. A small can be used on a 23 pound toddler and a large on a 14 pound 5 month old! Wow! The weight recommendations are just vague guidelines for all the diapers and covers, because shape and fit vary so much.
Aristocrat size large on big 5 month old boy. This baby has broad hips and a big tummy, so a large really is the right size for him. He is much broader, bigger and heavier (18 pounds) than the 5 month old girl above.
The most leak-proof diaper cover we know of! We love Aristocrats! The nighttime top performer.
Lansinoh lanolin and Eucalan Woolwash are on the Accessories page. A good woolwash is important. Your wool covers will leak if the lanolin is stripped from them with regular storebought woolwash. Olive Oil soap or a woolwash soap bar is another alternative. Wool does need to be handwashed, and occasional lanolization is helpful. But washing is needed only very infrequently, sometimes only once a month. Wool airs out to fresh easily. I know that's hard to believe, but it's true. If you don't get poop on the wool, (which must be handwashed out with some bar soap) then wool is actually easier to care for than synthetics because the washing is infrequent. I love wool!
Why is wool so wonderful at night? First, because it's breathable, so it's comfy. Second, because wool is actually absorbent. You want the cotton underneath to do the job of absorbing, but when the cotton inside has no more room to absorb, the wool takes up the excess moisture, instead of baby's pajamas or bedsheets. In a regular synthetic cover, when saturation is reached, there is nowhere for the moisture to go but out, which means wet pajamas and sheets. Wool, especially Aristocrat, is the best cover for nighttime. Note that it is bulkier than a regular cover, and it is not recommended for long car trips because of the potential for compression wicking when all of baby's weight is in one position for extended time without changing. That is the tradeoff when there is such good breathability.
Of all the wools, Aristocrat is the workhorse. If haven't tried wool before, this is the one to try. It's hard to convey how wonderful wool is on a website, but really, I get many emails saying things like, "I was scared to try wool, but now I'm a wool convert! It really is all you say it is." -- such as doesn't stink, don't need washing often, it's comfortable, not itchy, cool and breatheable. No synthetic matches the qualities of natural wool.
